What is the purpose of a church?
A great question to ask is what is the purpose of a Church? We have all heard of Churches, but maybe we need a bit more of an understanding of why they exist and what they do in the local community.
The local church, established by God, serves His divine purposes and brings glory to His name. Our responsibility is not to shape it according to personal desires or others’ opinions but to understand God’s definition and obediently follow His guidance. The church’s ultimate mission is to glorify God through worship, discipleship, and evangelism, embodying God’s plan for humanity’s hope.
What is the purpose of the church?
Paul offered a profound analogy to the Corinthian believers: the church represents God’s hands, mouth, and feet in the world—the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12-27). We are called to engage in actions that mirror those of Jesus Christ if He were physically present on earth. The church is meant to be genuinely “Christian,” reflecting Christ’s likeness and following his example. Acts 2:42 can be viewed as a foundational statement for the church’s purpose: “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and prayer.” According to this verse, the church’s core activities include teaching biblical doctrine, fostering fellowship among believers, observing the Lord’s supper, and engaging in prayer.

A great example of this is a Church in Ringwood called C3 Powerhouse. They are a Pentecostal Church in Melbourne East that exists to see lives transformed.
